Early Writing

I began writing when my son was born. I wanted to tell him stories that nobody else had heard. The stories I’d been told when I was a child were full of violence and suppression. Children typically got lost, were abandoned, were unwanted – except by witches and monsters who wanted to devour them.

I wanted to create stories that had humour, optimism and adventure

Expanding Horizons

From this small beginning, I began experimenting with other styles of writing. Like most writers, I tried (terrible) poetry. It didn’t take me long to discover that I hate rambling, rhyming iambic pentameter with fractured sentence structure to ensure a rhyming couplet. Instead, I courted a style that incorporates rhyme with rhythm.
